Our Work
A space for Every Voice.
Continuity is a fun piece that takes place entirely on a film set in New Mexico. The film they’re shooting is set on an arctic ice floe. Our sample highlights the first few minutes of the piece to contrast different recording approaches. All of the “film” takes were recorded on film mics (Boom and Lav), and the portions which are meant to be on the film set were recorded with an AKG 426 Stereo LDC.
All recorded in our Studio A with actors in the same room at the same time. We utilized film mixing and processing techniques for the film parts and audio drama mixing and processing techniques for the scenes “on set”. The result … a ton of depth that feels like the geography of an actual set and the sound of a theatrically released film — a great example of our scope of contrast.
Script adaptation was completed by The Invisible Studios in collaboration with the playwright. Concept design and 100% of production was done in-house at The Invisible Studios.
Pipeline is a Dominique Morisseau play that's been on and off Broadway. Our production won the 2022 Audie for Best Audio Drama. It's a good example of a smaller-scope and intimately powerful piece. There is not as much "saturation" as you'll hear in other pieces. It's intentionally minimalist so we focus on what matters – the words.
We adapted the script for audio with the playwright, supervised the full project, and 100% of production was done in-house. Our good friend Larry Powell directed.
When a client came to us to help produce an Audio Drama for a new adaptation of The Secret Garden, we pitched the idea of creating an immersive experience. First, we’d record the actors in the same room at the same time on a single 8-capsule ambisonic microphone, blocking the movement for all 3 planes including X,Y, and Z. Then we’d design in 7.1.4 Atmos, and finish it with a fully realized filmic Dolby Atmos mix. Thus began our maiden journey of true start to finish immersion.
The actors and creative team love working in this environment because, unlike capturing actors in isolation, everyone gets to play and collaborate in real-time… capturing the magic that can only be conjured when actors share space and time.
